#Hiring a Field Operations Intern

As part of our In-House Venture Building efforts, we are looking for a Field Operations Intern to supercharge our efforts in building a regenerative agri-business in Soroti; which aims to restore degraded landscapes in Uganda by leveraging syntropic agroforestry, community water harvesting systems, renewable energy solutions and market access. Our model empowers smallholder farmers with pay-as-you-use water and energy services while improving soil health and market access to power the transition to regenerative agriculture.

Job description

The Field Operations Intern will support business development efforts in Soroti by assisting with farmer engagement, data collection, market linkage coordination, and pilot implementation. This role is ideal for a motivated self driven individual passionate about regenerative agriculture, community development, and social entrepreneurship.

→ Key Responsibilities 

  1. Farmer Engagement & Training Support

    • Assist in mobilizing farmer clusters and organizing training sessions on syntropic agroforestry and water harvesting.

    • Help document farmer feedback to refine the pay-as-you-use model.

    • Support "Water Mayors" (community agents) in onboarding farmers.

  2. Market Linkage & Buyer Coordination

    • Collaborate with the sales agent to aggregate produce and liaise with buyers.

    • Track farmer yields and sales data to ensure pre-negotiated offtake agreements are fulfilled.

    • Help set up micro-trading hubs for local produce sales.

  3. Collect field data on soil health, water usage, and crop yields for impact reporting.

    • Support the team in Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) for carbon credits.

    • Document success stories and challenges for stakeholder reports.

  4. Administrative & Logistics Support

    • Assist in organizing workshops, farmer field days, and other activities.

    • Manage mobile money transactions for pay-per-use water/energy services.

    • Help maintain records of farmer payments and service usage.

→ Skills and Qualifications

Must-Have:

✅ Diploma/Degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Environmental Science, or related field.

✅ Ability to conduct basic repairs (plumbing, solar, etc.)

✅ Proficient in English and Ateso

Nice-to-Have:

✅ Permaculture or agroecology exposure

✅ Motorcycle license or riding experience

✅ Familiarity with Soroti farming communities

✅ Comfort with data collection (Excel, KoBoToolbox, or similar).

✅ 1+ years of hands-on experience in water/energy systems or agroecology.
